Little bit of fixture analysis

Chelsea – 73 points
April 19 – vs Sunderland (Home)
  • Chelsea already showed their hubris against bottomfeeders last month in their shit performance away to Palace, and Sunderland DESPERATELY need points.
  • However, they'll hopefully have learned from their mistake and will go into the game at Anfield still 2 points off Liverpool.
  • I'm gonna go with a comfortable Chelsea win here, 2-0.

April 22 – vs Atlético (Away)
  • The way this game goes will decide the rest of their season. If they lose away they'll need to do something in the return leg (duh).
  • I predict a score draw, 1-1.

April 27 – vs Liverpool (Away)
  • This game. Mourinho is superior to Rodgers, but their squads are just about equal, slightly edging in Chelsea's favor. However, Liverpool will have the edge of an extra 2 days' rest and tactical focus, with no other games to worry about. I expect a repeat of last year. 2-2.

April 30 – vs Atlético (Home)
  • After losing to Liverpool, Mourinho will throw all of his focus into this. 1-0. Courtois will be amazing.

May 4 – vs Norwich (Home)
  • See: Liverpool-Norwich. 3-0

May 11 – vs Cardiff (Away)
  • Cardiff are going into this either needing a win or already being out. Honestly, I think they'll go into this uncertain, but Chelsea will beat them anyway. Sorry Ole. 2-1.

Liverpool – 75 points
April 20 – vs Norwich (Away)
  • This game's a cake-walk, Norwich fucking suck (and they're going down, mark my words). 4-0, and another barrage of shameless pandering posts from goal.com, 101greatgoals, and the rest of the "neutrals" who think Gerrard's owed something and that Suarez won't try to fuck off to Madrid this summer. Fuck off.

April 27 – vs Chelsea (Home) 2-2
May 5 – vs Crystal Palace (Away)
  • The proverbial banana peel. Palace might nick this. 0-1.
May 11 – vs Newcastle (Home)

  • Newcastle don't give a shit, no reason to risk injury for all of their World Cup hopefuls. 3-0

Chelsea 83 points
Liverpool 82 points

According to my prediction, this one is gonna go down to the final whistle just like the City-United race of 2 years ago... Should be fun.

Predictions are just that though; speculation. So sit back and enjoy.

3 Points – April 17, 2014

1. City are done.

Though they've obviously got 3rd locked down, they'll see this season as a major disappointment after only winning the League Cup, especially after all the promise they were showing in February. Bad defending (and bad goalkeeping) has been their undoing. Can't really blame Kompany for not playing well, but City were so unlucky against Liverpool.

Against Sunderland, however, Wickham took advantage of terrible defending for the first goal, then beat Hart at his near post for the second. That's not how a champion defends. They now rely on Chelsea and Liverpool both dropping at least 4 points apiece in the remaining fixtures (whilst winning all of theirs as well), and I don't see that happening. However, stranger things have happened (as City fans are well aware).

2. Joe Hart needs to get his head out of his ass ASAP

The streakiest player I've ever seen, possibly. He's only ever in amazing form (like his performance at the Bernabeu last season) or in terrible form (see this week against Liverpool and Sunderland for example). This man is Hodgson's uncontested #1 Choice (which Fraser Forster SHOULD have something to say about, but doesn't), and he needs to show up in Brazil or England are going straight down.

Have you seen this man?

3. Chelsea vs. Liverpool is going to be MASSIVE (obviously)
*Note shameless anti-Liverpool bias*

I'd like to hear something from AG or Bons on this, but I think Liverpool have it wrapped up. Let's look at the remaining fixtures for each side, and I'll identify the "nasty" fixtures with (**) –

Chelsea
Sunderland (home) **
Atletico (away) **
Liverpool (away) **
Atletico (home) **
Norwich (home)
Cardiff (away) **

Liverpool
Norwich (away)
Chelsea (home) **
Crystal Palace (away) **
Newcastle (home)
Chelsea clearly have more to worry about, as they're still in two competitions. Liverpool have the luxury of having less to deal with. No excuses though, for me, it's what they get paid to do. Both managers are going to be focused till the final whistle. It's gonna take a hell of a job from both sides and City still have the most minuscule of chances to still snatch it from under both of their noses.

...

Okay, *Liverpool hatred goggles off*. Gerrard looks desperate to win the title. He sees a chance with everyone having off years, and it looks like the only chance he'll ever have at it. I don't see that kind of determination (or leadership) from anyone at Chelsea. Liverpool are far more focused and are going to win the title. Excuse me while I go puke.

1. Liverpool were lucky
Get me on a plane to Vegas with Brendan Rodgers, because Liverpool were really fucking lucky today.
  • Yaya Toure limped off after 20 minutes. The guy that could still win the Player of the Year award (him or Suarez for me; different story for a different day) leaves the game after 20 minutes. Nightmare. They were already 1-0 up, and City were without Agüero... this made the job so much easier for Liverpool. Not to mention, he was replaced by Javi Garcia, the most useless midfielder I've ever seen, and I've seen Anderson.
  • Joe Hart was utter shit today. Actually, just in general he's utter shit, but today it was more obvious than usual because Kompany was also bad. I put it to you that Sterling's goal would not have happened against any other keeper in the Premier League. Except for maybe Szczeszcscezcezceceny(spellcheck), who's also prone to going out into no man's land to stop an attack. Of course if it was him, he would've gotten sent off after karate kicking Sterling. So there's that.
  • Kompany was uncharacteristically bad. He was the one marking Skrtel when he put them 2-0 up, and his ridiculous mistake led to Coutinho's winner. Bad performance from the captain.
  • Suarez really pushed the limit for getting sent off. After an early caution, Suarez had to toe the line, but then he didn't. After earlier talking back to the referee (to no punishment whatsoever), he then dove on a play where Demichelis missed him by at least 3 feet. #Clattenburg
Seems like Liverpool's goals almost...shouldn't have happened.
Now, obviously as a United fan it makes me sick to my core to see these two teams fighting for the title. I've seen plenty of lucky shit benefit my team, but whatever. Well played I suppose? Was it really though?

2. Munich don't care about the league anymore and it's going to come back to bite them
Munich have absolutely taken their foot off the gas.

Look at Klopp's face. LOOK AT IT. Anyway, if Munich keep this up they're gonna get mauled by Madrid and Dortmund again when they meet in the DFB Pokal (after they beat Köln and Wolfsburg, respectively.)

3. Matagawa needs to keep happening
Okay, so... the season's over for us. Rooney needs to be rested for the World Cup amid injury concerns... So, it's the perfect time to play Mata and Kagawa in behind Hernandez and watch the magic happen. Those two are crucial to our attacking plans next year (along with Griezmann or Reus? Please?) and now's as good a time as ever to make that happen. Hey, if we win the rest of our games and Everton and Arsenal both fuck it up we could even finish 4th. Long shot.
